Achievement in Web-Based Courses

A 6 page research paper that offers a critique of a study on web-based learning. Bell (2007) conducted a study that investigated the effects of self-regulated learning (SRL) and epistemological beliefs (EB) on the achievement of individual learners involved in courses that included web-based learning environments. The researcher points out that while online learning has been praised as creating greater access to higher education, it is questionable as to whether or not all students in their late adolescence/early adult years can benefit from this experience, as the online learning environment requires a high degree of self-regulation, as well as “higher levels of intellectual development” (Bell, 2007, p. 523). Adapting To A Co-Ed College

Adjusting to change is an integral part of what it means to be human; the extent to which man's world is filled with constant modification of one sort or another is both grand and far-reaching. That life is one progressive transformation from one aspect to another speaks to the need for people to learn to adapt to these changes; while many are small and subtle in nature, others – like adapting to a co-ed college from an all-girls or all-boys school – can represent one of the most challenging of all life changes. Adjusting to Life as a Tertiary Distance Education Student

A 17 page paper investigating college students' ability to adjust to distance education in the online environment compared to the on-ground, traditional classroom setting. As could be expected, those students with fewer other responsibilities (job, children) report spending more time with their online studies. Those least hopeful for their success also are those who have not contacted their instructors and do not spend time with their studies every day.
